Crysis 2: What are the electric appliances for?

Depending on the level of Ai and how stealthy you are they could be used as a distraction. I do have the first game and they( some laptops ) did function, in respect to being able to be turned on, did not play a role in your survival. Seems like they took the environmental interaction up a few notches at least.
