Need a letter of recomendation for college but have no one to ask, what should i do?

Hey, I've been out of high school for 5 years now and i've finally decided to go to college, but I need a letter of recommendation from either a teacher, counselor, or ad visor. Now I didn't have a marvelous academic record in high school so what should I do? I was thinking about going to a community college and take a class and get the professor to write me a letter. Anybody got any other ideas?
