What would possess my husband to be rude like this to me?

Yesterday we were in the car, and he was driving everything was going fine he was playing his music and i decided to fix up my makeup a little before we got to the party we were going to and when i pulled down the visor and he said and i quote "what the f*ck kelsie, you're not a plastic surgeon put up your visor i'm getting kind of pissed you're blocking my side mirror. and i said yeah so? and he said "do i look like one of your little girlfriends, that's a rhetorical question you talk to me like you talk to them i'll f*ck you up". and he told me to get in the back seat, and i slapped him and he said "get in the f*cking back and put on the rest of your sl*t powder. My husband never acts like this towards ME. I've heard him and his friends be rude to other women but after 12 years...i never thought he would act like that towards me.
